Online Safety Policy
Last updated: December 2024
1. Our Commitment
Tutor Nest UK is committed to ensuring that all online tuition sessions are conducted safely and securely. This policy outlines our approach to online safety and the expectations for students, parents/carers, and our tutor.
2. Safe Online Learning Practices
All lessons are delivered via secure, reputable video conferencing platforms. We follow best practices for online safety, including:
- Using password-protected meeting rooms.
- Ensuring only invited participants can join sessions.
- Conducting lessons in an appropriate, distraction-free environment.
- Monitoring the chat function and screen-sharing during lessons.
3. Use of Secure Platforms
We use established, secure platforms for online tuition (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams). These platforms are regularly updated and offer security features including:
- End-to-end encryption.
- Host controls for managing participants.
- Waiting rooms to verify attendees before admitting them.
4. Recording Policy
Lesson recordings are not made as standard practice. If a recording is requested for educational purposes (e.g., for student revision), explicit written consent will be obtained from the parent/carer in advance. Any recordings made will be stored securely and deleted once no longer needed.
5. Expectations for Students
Students are expected to:
- Join lessons from a suitable, quiet location.
- Use the video platform responsibly and respectfully.
- Keep cameras on during lessons (where agreed) to support engagement.
- Do not record, screenshot, or share lesson content without permission.
- Report any technical issues or concerns to the tutor or parent/carer immediately.
6. Expectations for Parents/Carers
Parents/carers are expected to:
- Ensure the student has access to a safe, private space for lessons.
- Supervise or remain nearby, particularly for younger students.
- Ensure the device used for lessons has up-to-date security software.
- Communicate any concerns about online safety promptly.
7. Data and Digital Conduct
All data shared during lessons (including chat messages and shared documents) is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. We expect all parties to:
- Communicate respectfully and professionally at all times.
- Not share personal contact details or social media information during lessons.
- Report any inappropriate behaviour or content immediately.
8. Reporting Concerns
If you have any concerns about online safety during lessons, please contact us immediately at info@tutor-nest.co.uk. All concerns will be taken seriously and addressed promptly.
